About our Neighborhood

The Save Tanque Verde Valley Group formed when the neighborhood received a letter announcing a church coming to our neighborhood. Thankfully, a diligent neighbor wanted to know more about the church. It was after doing research that the validity of the church came into question. We started with an informal gathering in a backyard, under the canopy of our beautiful mesquites.

Our meetings are a place where information is presented to the community. Many people over a period of several weeks have gathered information from many sources. Our hopes are to keep the community aware, address concerns regarding the development, provide support and direction on what individuals can do, and stop any business abusing the rights of a church to deceive our community and government entities. Guests at our meetings have included Pima County Supervisor Ray Carroll, Chief Zoning Inspector for Pima County Development Services Tina Whittemore, and entrepreneur John Fazio.

Although this is a current issue occurring in our community, this could happen almost anywhere in Pima County. The loophole the developer is using to allow this business in a residential zone is that a church is permitted in any zone. This means this could happen to you. We would like to restate that our concern is not with a proposed church, but with the business motives behind the proposal.
